GOOGLE Inc is expected to announce today that it is developing an operating system for a personal computer based on its Chrome browser, The New York Times said, citing two people briefed on Google's plans.

Google plans to make the announcement on a company blog this afternoon, the paper said.

No one at Google could immediately be reached for comment on the report.
